Pakistan vs South Africa 2nd Test match, South Africa won by 8 wickets

Pakistan started the new (2025-27) cycle of the World Test Championship with a loss against South Africa. They made a remarkable comeback in the second Test to level the series 1-1. The Proteas won a Test on Pakistani soil for the first time since 2007. Chasing a target of just 68 runs set by the hosts, the Aden Markram-led team secured victory by losing 8 wickets.

The tail-end batsmen controlled the match for South Africa in the Rawalpindi Test. Senuran Muthushami and Keshav Maharaj put on a 71-run stand for the ninth wicket, followed by Muthushami and Kagiso Rabada putting on an incredible 98-run stand for the tenth wicket to give the visitors a huge lead of 73 runs. Pakistan vs South Africa: Pakistan were 94 for 4 at the end of the third day, with Babar Azam 49 and Mohammad Rizwan not out on 16. Babar was dismissed early in the day, having earlier reached a fifty. Babar brought up his 30th half-century in Tests off 87 balls, including seven fours. Then the series of wickets began to fall; Rizwan (18), Noman Ali (0) and Shaheen Afridi (0) were dismissed quickly. Salman Agha (28) and Sajid Khan (13) also failed to survive.

Pakistan's batting woes saw them score just 138 runs in their second innings. After the Proteas' 71-run lead was destroyed, Pakistan managed just 67 runs. Simon Harmer took the top wicket with 6 wickets, while Keshav Maharaj took 2 wickets and Rabada took 1 wicket.

Chasing a small target, Proteas captain Markram and Ryan Rickelton played like an ODI battle and moved towards victory. Markram was out for 42, but Rickelton remained unbeaten on 25 to secure victory. Tristan Stubbs was out for just a few runs, but the Proteas won easily. Noman Ali took two wickets for Pakistan in the second innings.
